Anemurium Ancient City

The Ancient City was founded by the Phoenicians in the 12th or 13th century BC and was later occupied by the Assyrians and Hittites. Anemurium developed during the Roman period and became a major trade center. The Ancient City of Anamurium was at its best in the 3rd century AD. Many of the ruins in the Ancient City belong to this period.

Mamure Castle

It is located by the sea. The back of the castle overlooks the beach where sea turtles come and lay their eggs in the summer, while the front overlooks the D400 highway. This wonderful castle, with its crenelated walls, 36 towers and moat still intact, is one of the largest and best preserved castles on the Mediterranean coast.

 

Titiapolis Ancient City

It hosts many ruins from the Roman, Hellenistic and Byzantine periods.
In the Ancient City of Titiapolis, there is an odeon, bouleuterion, ninfeum and ancient theater that are not seen today and are located under the village, which is currently a residential area. The walls built with polygonal stones protected the Ancient City.

 

Banana Greenhouses

The banana greenhouses you can see on your way to the Anemurium Ancient City are one of the best places to see how Anamur's most famous fruit grows. Banana trees, which were brought to Turkey from Egypt as ornamental plants in 1750, have been producing fruit since the 1930s.
Banana, which contains useful vitamins such as sodium, potassium, calcium, iron and phosphorus, also revitalizes the muscles. Anamur Banana, which has a certain reputation in the world, is one of the most important sources of income of the district.

 

Anamur Museum

Anamur Museum, located near Anamur Pier, is approximately 4 km away from the town center.
Anamur Museum, where artifacts unearthed from historical places such as Anemurium Ancient City, Mamure Castle and Titopolis Ancient City are exhibited, is among the places frequented by many local and foreign tourists.
 

 

Kelenderis Ancient City

The Ancient City was in a very difficult situation due to pirate attacks that took place in the 100s BC. It returned to its glorious time after the Romans gained the Mediterranean trade route.

 

Softa Castle

It is located in Bozyazı district. The walls of Softa Castle are oval in shape and well preserved. At the entrance of the castle, located in the middle of the wall in the western part, there is an intermediate space that can increase the defense capability.

 

Gilindire Cave

The cave, also called Aynalıgöl Cave, occurred completely naturally. It is also described as the pearl of the Mediterranean by the local people.
